PSU Student on ‘Real World: Cancun’

real-world-logoIn light of all this swine flu business, Mexico has not been getting the best of breaks. Sure, they were the country that the virus originated in. Sure, they traffic drugs like it’s their job. Sure, they made us make Texas a state, or something like that. But I’m not giving up on them, and neither is my good friend MTV.

The 22nd season of The Real World was filmed in Cancun, legendary Spring Break destination on the Yucatan Peninsula. This season is extra special for us here in Happy Valley because one of our very own is a member of the cast.

The Collegian had the story this morning,

Bronne Bruzgo (junior-history) was cast last semester for The Real World: Cancun, which began taping Jan. 26, his friend Seth Bruckner (junior-film and video) said. At Penn State, he was a member of the Marines ROTC and the Penn State Boxing Club before taking a semester off to film the show.

After signing many waivers and relinquishing his driver’s license, Bruckner had the chance to visit Bruzgo while the show was being filmed.

Bruckner said the eight roommates were living in a large apartment that MTV’s Web site confirmed to be located in the ME Cancun hotel. Bruckner had to turn in his driver’s license and sign waivers to enter. He said the house was “pretty nasty.”

“They have a jellyfish aquarium right in their entry way,” he said.

Jellyfish? That’s sick!

So check out the show on MTV when it airs. Neither the Collegian nor the Internets have told me when that is.

Senior Writes Final Column

Senior columns, with all their melodrama and platitudes, usually leave me eye-rolling and shaking my head with a vigor usually reserved for study abroad blog posts. But, as I graduate a week from today, I figured I should give it a go myself. Rather than discuss the origins of Onward State like Evan,  I’d just like to briefly thank a few individuals who have defined my Penn State experience.
