Elm Yellows Disease Outlook Looking Up

normal_04_elm_mallLast year’s initial panic that Elms Yellows Disease would infect and destroy all the elm trees on campus appears to be a bit overblown. The trees appear to be responding to treatment better than expected. So far, only 37 trees have been or will be cut down out of the 287 on campus.

To keep the dendrophiliac population informed, Penn State has actually devoted an entire subdomain to updates on the situation at elmyellows.psu.edu.

Gordon Turow, director of campus planning and design, said…

They are still monitoring the situation, but it seems that the elms on Burrowes Road and Schreyer Lane are the only trees still at risk.
