Big Ten Expansion Poll

As the bowl season kicks off, the Big Ten has gained relevance on the national scene by announcing that they’re going to investigate adding another school to our coveted alliance. For many schools, this is an opportunity to join an elite guild of research universities that boast large alumni bases and get a sweet ESPN/ABC contract with profit sharing. For us, it’s an opportunity to extend our football season and develop some interesting rivalries.

Also, should we be renamed? The Big Ten really wouldn’t make sense any more, would it (not that it makes much sense with 11 teams)?

There is only one logical answer, and PITT IS IT!

Bob Smith at the Patriot posted his thoughts on the possibilites today. I don’t know shit about football (relatively speaking), so I’ll submit it as my contribution to this discussion.

I propose the Big North As long as we don’t take Mo.

While I think the better solution to this problem is to petition the NCAA/BCS/Whoever-made-the-stupid-rule to allow conferences without 12 teams to hold a championship game and therefore play into December, it has to be Pitt or ND. I wouldn’t mind Mizzou, but I don’t see them leaving the Big 12.

As far as the name goes, I don’t think they’d change it. I think they’d come up with a clever way to acknowledge the fact there’s 12 teams and not 10 with the logo. Something to the effect of the current logo with the 11 hidden in the space on either side of the T.

We’ve asked ND at least once before to join, they won’t cough up they’re NBC deal to join us so we shouldn’t waste our time.  Syracuse would be sweet and Mizzou would be nice also.  I think Pitt would be hard pressed to leave the Big Least and Cincy and Rutgers are just worthless.

    New name.. Big Dozen (?)
