Committee Spotlight: Public Relations

I was fortunate enough to get an interview with the very busy Public Relations captain Lauren Bucci.

OS: For how many years have you been involved with THON? What THON related activities do you do?

Lauren: I have been involved for 3 years. In my sophomore year I was on a morale committee. On my junior year I was on a communications committee, was the overall chairperson for ResLife THON and I danced. Now I am a Public Relations captain and still ResLife THON overall.

OS: What does your committee do?

Lauren: PR is a bunch of different things. I am a media relations captain and we deal with the press for THON (hey thats us! – Hasan). There are 6 captains that deal with print and broadcast press at a local, state and national levels.

OS: What is your favorite part of THON?

Lauren: So many! Let me pick a good one. I love seeing the kids and how the littlest of things that excited them. Just knowing that you can put a smile on the little kids’ faces is great. I don’t mind the early 90’s boyband music either.

OS: Why did you get involved with THON?

Lauren: I came to visit my RA when I was a freshman. At that time I had no idea that THON even existed, much less how to get involved. It was one of those moments where I realized that seeing is believing that something like this could even exist and you just know that you HAVE to be a part of it.

OS: How long will you be here this weekend?

Lauren: I arrived here at 9 am and I will most probably be here until after everything is finished. That includes cleaning.

OS: What song do you hope they play this weekend?

Lauren: I am a big fan of Disney music and am hoping for a repeat of last year’s Disney hour.

OS: How would you rate your dance skills?

Lauren: They are less than up to par. I usually just have fun and enjoy myself when I dance.

OS: What would you say is the coolest thing you have seen all weekend?

Lauren: Being a captain gives me the chance to see the different sides of THON. I got to see the transformation of the BJC into THON’s home and I realized that this could not happen without the help of all the amazing people who sacrifice their time to be here.

OS: If you were a dinosaur, what dinosaur would you be?

Lauren: I would be Ducky from Land Before Time. (For those those interested its called a Parasaurolophus. Rough to read..I know.)
