Urban Meyer Rumors Resurface

Penn State’s student radio station, The Lion WKPS-FM, has cited sources in a tweet indicating that Urban Meyer purchased a house in Boalsburg. Rumors surrounding Urban Meyer’s potential involvement as Penn State’s next head coach have swirled for months, ever since he stepped down from his post at Florida. Although this statement is yet uncorroborated, it’s reasonable to trust in the integrity of the radio station.

A check of county property records could either confirm or deny these reports, and Onward State will investigate further to determine the veracity of these reports.

Still, even if true, it’s hardly evidence that Meyer would be replacing Joe Paterno by next season. Meyer has daughters who play volleyball, and a common theme in the Meyer gossip has been that she would join Russ Rose’s highly celebrated unit. It’s possible that Meyer, who surely has enough money to do so, is only purchasing a house so he has a place to stay when he visits her.

However, even if we are just reading the tea leaves, this is undoubtedly a bit of positive news for the vast majority of Penn State fans, perhaps the first we’ve had following an immensely troubling weekend.

UPDATE: 1:31 p.m.

After following up with sources at The Lion, we can refine our post.

The information came to the radio station from a commercial real estate developer, who has informed WKPS that the property was leased, not sold, to Meyer. If this is the case, it would not necessarily show up in the record of deeds. We will continue to follow up on this story as more information becomes available.

Guest Column: Endorsements Keep PS4RS on Wrong Track for Accomplishing Meaningful Reform

The loudest voices in this upcoming Board of Trustees election are those who are living in the past, driven primarily by an unhealthy thirst for vengeance. They refuse to acknowledge that the present poses new and distinct challenges, and that our Trustees are the ones who must lead this university through an uncertain future.
