Astronomy Professor to Deliver Lecture Dressed as Buddy the Elf, FTK of Course

We have all heard stories about Penn Staters getting creative to raise money for THON, but this fundraiser by special interest org FOTO might just take the cake. Astronomy Professor Brad Barlow will deliver a lecture today dressed as Buddy the Elf at 11:15 in 105 Forum as part of an embarrassing fashion auction for THON.

Barlow beat out several other contenders — including Chris Calkins as Snow White, Kortney Sherbine as a squirrel, Dr. Jannelle Malcos (a huge Packers fan) as a Steelers Fan, and Chris Marone who would wear a funny wig around campus all day.

“Having done a similar fudraiser with a different name, we wanted to raise money for THON on the idea that although they are getting stressed from finals and projects at the end of the semester, they have a chance to turn the tables on make their professors sweat a little,” said Alex Zanetti, the FOTO media officer.

For a few days last week, FOTO put out jars for each professor in the HUB for the embarrassing acts to be voted on by students  as to which “embarrassing” act they would like to see. Barlow won, and $416 was raised FTK as a result.

If you’re lucky enough to have Brad Barlow in class today, make sure to tweet us a picture @OnwardState!

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
