Penn State to Host NCAA Championships in Fencing and Men’s Volleyball

The NCAA national championships for men’s and women’s fencing as well as men’s volleyball will be held at Penn State over the next few seasons, according to a release from the NCAA this afternoon in which it announced championship sites from 2014 to 2018.

The NCAA men’s volleyball championship will be held at Rec Hall in May of 2016, while the fencing national championship will be held at Penn State’s Multi-Sport Facility in March of 2018.

Additionally, an NCAA regional final for women’s gymnastics will be held in spring of 2018 at Rec Hall and the men’s and women’s cross country regional final will be held in the fall of 2016 on the Blue/White Golf Course.

The women’s volleyball team had applied to be the host team for an NCAA national championship site at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, but it was not granted one.

Last year, the men’s volleyball team lost in the national semifinals, while the men’s fencing team placed third in the national championships. Hopefully some of our athletic teams will get a chance to represent the university on home turf over the coming years.
