Penn State Love Stories: Part 12

This week we have three more beautiful love stories featuring a couple that met at LEAP, at a church gathering downtown, and in Chem 110 (who knew anything good could come out that class?). Introducing…

Jessica and James

He is: James Liberty, Class of 2009

She is: Jessica Liberty, Class of 2010

They first met: At Jessica’s off campus apartment where ACF, a church at Penn State was having a gathering. Jess was wearing pineapple pajama pants and had just gotten out of the shower after a cross country meet.

What happened next: That same night James and Jess discovered that they grew up about 15 miles from each other in California. A few weeks later, after they had gone to the Illinois game with a group of friends, James got the courage to ask her out. They’re been together since.

Now they’re: Married

And have been together: 5 years

Their soundbite: “After we got engaged my uncle bought us Penn State jerseys with our last name, Liberty, on them and we wore them on our way out of the reception over my suit and her wedding dress after the wedding. We still bleed blue and white.”

Bethany and Cody

He is: Cody Harris, Class of 2013

She is: Bethany Ford, Class of 2013

They first met: In Chem 110. One of Cody’s friends started talking to Bethany and at the end of class Cody told her she didn’t want to hang out with that kid. His advice proved to be worthwhile; the kid turned out to be a compulsive liar.

What happened next: They became best friends and after the end of school bash they went for a walk and Cody kissed Bethany.

Now they’re: Dating

And have been together: 4.5 years

Their soundbite: “We enjoyed our entire college careers at Penn State together and lived together in State College. I made him take a philosophy class with me for a general education course. He only agreed to take the class with me if I did his homework. He earned a higher grade in the class than I did, even though I did all of our homeworks!”

Erin and Scott

He is: Scott Diven, Class of 2008

She is: Erin Diven, Class of 2006

They first met: On their very first day of college. Scott and Erin were both signed up for the LEAP program for Engineering in the summer of 2002.

What happened next: Even though they met on their first day, the timing wasn’t right and Scott didn’t get the courage to ask Erin out until she had graduated and moved out of Happy Valley. After Scott graduated, 2 years later, they moved in together, adopted pets, and got engaged in front of Old Main in February of 2009.

Now they’re: Married, expecting their first child

And have been together: 6 years

Their soundbite: “Our wedding was Penn State themed (footballs no flowers, cut out JoePa, creamery ice cream and grilled stickies). We currently live in Lancaster County and are expecting a son in mid-May so his first trip to Penn State will be for Arts Fest this year.  While we are kind of bummed our plans to go to the Dublin game no longer work for us, we’re extremely excited at the idea of dressing our son up in one of those Nittany lion suits and taking him up for his first game!”
