Graham Spanier, Todd Blackledge Sign 409 Posters at Paterno Rally

Day 1 of Rally for Joe collected some big-name signatures on the 409 sign that will be presented to Mark Emmert during a festive downtown atmosphere today.

Graham Spanier, Todd Blackledge, and a handful of Penn State celebrities and trustees all made appearances at the rally for Joe Paterno’s wins.

“We did things the right way,” Blackledge, the former quarterback and current ESPN analyst, told the crowd. “There was no culture problem with our football program. I speak from experience.”

Blackledge accompanied his signature on the sign with “best coach ever!” As for Spanier, he said he was on his “way to an appointment” and signed the 409 while passing by. Blackledge stopped by Michael Pilato’s mural, where he added a handprint next to Joe Paterno.

Though Emmert was invited to the rally, he surprisingly did not make an appearance. Many other famous Penn Staters left their marks on the sign, too:

The rally will end at 7 p.m. tonight, but will start again tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. The organizers plan on driving the 409 sign to NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis to present to Emmert along with a copy of  The People’s Joe film.

Penn State’s New Academic Mark Is Just Awful

My brain is not able to understand how a team of people supposedly proficient in this industry gathered, looked at this new mark, and said, “Yes, this will do!”
