Costume Contests and Killer Parties: Your Halloweekend Bar Guide

If there’s two things college students love, it’s going to bars and getting free stuff. Luckily — if you’re 21 or older — you’ll be able to do both this weekend. Plenty of the bars within State College will be hosting frightful festivities for the thirsty masses.

Whether you created your own costume or bought one, you’re bound to have a good time at one or more of these costume contests and bar Halloween parties:

Kildare’s Irish Pub

Kildare’s is hosting two ‘Killer Halloween Parties’. The merriments begin on Thursday when the J.J. Rupp Band takes the stage at 10 p.m. The band will be on the lookout for the best costume and the winner will take home $250. DJ Flurr will start spinning at 10 p.m. on Friday and will judge the best costume from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. The winner on Saturday will take home $500.

Indigo

Indigo will be hosting costume contests Thursday through Saturday and $5,000 in prizes will be given away throughout the weekend. Giveaways will be awarded to the sexiest, scariest, best group, and best overall costumes. Thursdays at Indigo rarely disappoint, but be sure to get there early this time around — the first 300 guests in the door won’t pay a cover and DJ Danny Diggz will perform all night. DJ Alex Nepa will perform on Friday, followed by DJ Keigo on Saturday.

Chrome Liquor Lounge

$500 in gift cards will be given out each night on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The staff will be picking the winners so be sure to tip well!

Shandygaff

The “Gaff” will host a “Monster Halloween Bash” beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday. We can’t be entirely sure what that means, but a Halloween twist at one of the most popular student bars is sure to be a great time.

Chumley’s

Chumley’s will feature live music all weekend and free “scary pizza” on Friday. Be sure to get your pumpkin fix on Saturday when pumpkin pie martinis and pumpkin harvest beers will be on special.

Phyrst

State College’s favorite basement will be in full Halloween mode this weekend. The Phyrst girls and other staff will dress as villains on Friday and superheroes on Saturday.

Levels

The popular 18-and-over nightclub will be hosting ‘Halloween with Keys N Krates’ on Friday. You can get tickets here.

If we missed anything, let us know in the comments. Be sure to check out our bars page for all of the downtown drink specials this weekend.
