Center For Democratic Deliberation To Sponsor Deliberation Nation Events

Deliberation Nation will once again return to Penn State for another round of discussions surrounding hot topics in the community.

Deliberation Nation is ten-day series of events in which students discuss various topics relevant to their community and academic environment. It will run from February 22 through March 3 and will be hosted by Penn State’s Rhetoric and Civic Life students. Students will learn how to distinguish between various types of conversation while also attempting to frame the controversial issues of today’s world. Topics will span various spectrums, including college admission methods, student health concerns, and the drinking culture on campus.

The main goal of the event is to teach students there are ways to address issues other than just debate. It encourages participants to engage in smart, enriching conversation. The event also aims to connect students in a way that’s not just related to the university alone, but to the entire world. RCL students are invited to view the event as a great opportunity for real-life discussion rather than just an assignment.

“This is a place where people are able to be heard. I really hope that students take advantage of that, and [hope] this grows every year,” said Lori Bedell, Director of Rhetoric and Civic Life at Penn State.

The event is sponsored by Penn State’s Center for Democratic Deliberation, an organization that aims to promote public discussion and active citizenship in the community. It will be open to the public and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
