Penn State Named Among Best LGBT Friendly Universities By College Choice

Penn State has been ranked for its beautiful campus, fun atmosphere, and attractive student body in the past, but now the university is being recognized for its commitment to diversity. College Choice ranked Penn State No. 28 on a list of the best LGBT friendly colleges and universities of 2016.

College Choice created the rankings by evaluating colleges and universities that “have a strong history of creating quality programming for the LGBTQ community and its allies.” The site combined results from Campus Pride, a website that ranks LGBT friendliness among universities, with their own criteria based on factors like academic reputation, affordability, and student satisfaction. Overall, 50 colleges and universities were designated as the most friendly to the LGBT population.

After a brief rundown of the university, College Choice quoted the LGBTQA Resource Center’s mission and vision statement and commended the center’s commitment to upholding the LGBTQA community.

“Penn State has fleshed out these principles and values by establishing the LGBTQA Resource Center on campus which offers programming and support to the LGBTQA community,” the website noted. “Beyond the Resource Center’s library of printed resources and training events, the Center works to advocate for policy changes at the institutional level to better recognize the unique needs of individuals within the LGBTQA community.”
