What Freshmen Want In A Roommate According To Their Facebook Posts

We’ve all been through the frantic search for your first college roommate. While some Penn Staters  opt to live with a pal from home or use the random lottery, some take to social media for the search: the class Facebook page.

Based off the Class of 2021 Facebook page, here are a few things upcoming freshmen seem to want most in a roommate.

“I like to go out, but grades are important to me.”

It seems most freshmen need to articulate that they love getting a bit wild on the weekends, but they’ll still get up for that English 015 class.

“A gym buddy would be nice!”

As a Big Ten school, this one doesn’t come as a huge surprise. And since the Intramural Building is a two-minute walk from east halls, so there’s no excuse not to work out now and then.

“…To just Netflix and chill sometimes!”

Our student body goes out and works out — but don’t be fooled, Penn Staters value some chill-out time as well.

“I might rush, but I might not. But I probably will. Maybe not though.”

In addition to mentioning their interests, clubs, and passions, a common note in these posts was whether the individual was planning on rushing during their college experience or not.

Finding a roommate is a pretty daunting task, but never fear — if you’re committed to University Park, enjoy going out, value your studies, hit the gym now and then, and want to get involved, you’re a desirable candidate.
