What To Do In Pittsburgh And Philly Over Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving Break is quickly approaching for Penn State students, and many are looking forward to the solace and home-cooked meals it will bring. But the arrival of break does beg the question of what to do with the time off in the first place.

For those from anywhere near Pittsburgh or Philadelphia, there are plenty of options to make this break one to remember:

Pittsburgh

Hoodie Allen at Stage AE — November 17

Hoodie Allen will perform downtown at Stage AE on Friday, November 17. Doors open at 7 p.m. and General Admission tickets are still available on the Stage AE website.

Comcast Light Up Night — November 17

Every year, Pittsburgh celebrates Light Up Night right before break. If you’re hoping to get into the holiday spirit, head downtown to see live music, performances, tree lightings, and fireworks.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Chicago Blackhawks — November 19

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the quest to defend the Stanley Cup for the third straight year. If you’re in town, watch them take on the Blackhawks at the PPG Paints Arena on Sunday, November 19 at 7 p.m.

Lady Gaga Concert — November 20

Lady Gaga will bring her “Joanne” World Tour to the PPG Paints Arena on Monday, November 20. The show will begin at 7:30 and tickets are still available online.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Vancouver Canucks — November 22

The Penguins will also take on the Canucks at home on Wednesday, November 22. The game will start at 7 p.m. at the PPG Paints Arena.

Winter Flower Show and Light Garden — Begins November 24

The Winter Flower Show and Light Garden opens up at Phipps Conservatory on Friday, November 24. If you’re in the mood for some vibrant holiday displays, head over to Phipps Conservatory from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The beautiful flowers and lights will definitely get you into the holiday spirit.

Kennywood Holiday Lights — Begins November 24

Holiday lights are back at Kennywood starting on November 24. Since it’s opening day, if you head over to Kennywood on November 24, there will be a fireworks display later in the evening. The park is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends leading up to Christmas.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning — November 25

The Penguins will play at home one last time during fall break, this time against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Once again, the game starts at 7 p.m. in the PPG Paints Arena.

Philadelphia

Tchami Concert — November 17

EDM artist Tchami will perform Friday, November 17 at 8:30 p.m. at the Electric Factory. Tickets are still available online.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Calgary Flames — November 18

The Flyers will take on the Flames Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center.

ODESZA Concert — November 21

DJ and producer ODESZA will perform at the Electric Factory on Tuesday, November 21 at 8 p.m. For more information on how to get tickets, check here.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Utah Jazz — November 22

The 76ers will play the Jazz Wednesday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Portland Trailblazers — November 23

The 76ers will also take on the Trailblazers at home on Thursday, November 23 at 7 p.m.

Comcast Holiday Spectacular — Opens November 23

A massive, high-definition LED display will show 15-minute features from the Philadelphia Ballet as well as a magic sleigh that flies through Philadelphia’s skyline. The display opens November 23, and you can find more information on specific show times here.

Longwood Gardens — Opens November 23

An extravagant display featuring lights and natural arrangements, Longwood Gardens is one of the Philadelphia area’s most popular holiday displays. The display will kick off its winter season next Thursday and you can find more information here.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders — November 24

The Flyers will take on the Islanders Friday, November 24 at 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chicago Bears — November 26

Fans of the Eagles will have one chance to catch the Birds over break before the trek back to State College. The Eagles will take on the Chicago Bears on the final day of break at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.
