Man Convicted of DUI While Riding Bicycle

I couldn’t help but notice an interesting tidbit in this Centre Daily Times cops brief yesterday.

According to the story, Frank Aritz Jr. of State College was found guilty for riding his bicycle in downtown State College with a .162 BAC level. Aritz was spotted by police riding his bike without a headlamp on East Beaver Ave. and on the South Allen St. bike route, per the CDT.

According to prosecutors, Aritz’s reaction when he was pulled over was, “It’s a fucking bike!”

Unfortunately for Aritz, bicycles are treated the same as automobiles when it comes to DUI laws in Pennsylvania. It’s an important law to know if you think riding a bicycle is a safe alternative to get home after a night of drinking.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
