New IFC Sanctions Policy More Equal

In Animal Farm, all were equal, but some were more equal than others. Until Tuesday night, it was the same with IFC fraternities.

According to the Daily Collegian, on Tuesday, the IFC adopted more just sanctioning guidelines for policy violations.

Under the new uniform sanctions policy, a chapter with more members will face a larger fine than a chapter with less members, Cartwright said. Before, there was a set sanction fine for every violation, Cartwright said — each fraternity chapter paid the same fine for a violation, regardless of the chapter’s number of members.

The previous policy did not consider the financial means of each fraternity. As a result, larger chapters with greater funding streams were not as impacted by a fine as a smaller chapter may be, Wendkos said.

Equity is important, and I’m sure the smaller Greek organizations are appreciative of this change in IFC policy.

Senior Writes Final Column

Senior columns, with all their melodrama and platitudes, usually leave me eye-rolling and shaking my head with a vigor usually reserved for study abroad blog posts. But, as I graduate a week from today, I figured I should give it a go myself. Rather than discuss the origins of Onward State like Evan,  I’d just like to briefly thank a few individuals who have defined my Penn State experience.
