View from Above: Recreation Hall

On the corner of Curtin and Burrowes Road, right next to the Lion Shrine,  is one of the oldest buildings on campus (and from the looks of it, I don’t doubt it). Climbing to the top of Rec Hall was extremely difficult due to its desperate need of new sturdy ladders; my physical plant guide was even hesitant on taking me to the top. This athletic facility provides students with 2 gymnasiums, 14 racquetball courts, 10 squash courts, indoor track, aerobics room, fitness center, and adaptive weight room but is primarily used for volleyball and basketball . Students only have access to three floors , but a tiny door in the wall leads to the first roof of the complex. Up three more thin rusty steel ladders is the top of Rec Hall, with its perfect view down Curtin Road. Since the tiny door in the wall is locked and you can’t really get a tall enough ladder, enjoy this mini gallery and stay tuned for more “View from Above” posts.
