This Week in Sports

If one were forced to pick an adjective for this week in Penn State sports, it would have to be clutch. Once again, the Lions pulled together to earn another victory in the NIT over former two-time defending national champion Florida. Despite a rocky 7-8 start to their season, the PSU baseball team has built up a solid 6-game winning streak. Men’s volleyball has reeled off three straight victories in the past week after a 2-game slump on March 13-14.

Talk about peaking at the right time, huh?

The Nitts secured a spot in Tuesday’s semifinal game at Madison Square Garden. Bandaged yet bruising, Jamelle Cornley led scored a game-high 23 points while nabbing 12 rebounds. Having tied the school record for wins in a season at 25, the Lions will try to set a new mark on Tuesday versus the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Men’s Swimming placed 14th at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in the 200 meter Free Relay. All-American Patrick Schirk will compete in the finals of the 100 backstroke tomorrow.

This is a great weekend for rabid PSU fans. Men’s Baseball is set to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes tonight at Medlar Field. Women’s softball resumes Big Ten action in their home opener versus defending Big Ten Champion Northwestern. Men’s Volleyball will complete their regular season home schedule at Rec Hall tonight and tomorrow versus Princeton and Mount Olive College. LET’S GO STATE!!!

Paternoville Preview

Paperless tickets? A spread offense at Linebacker U? Indeed, times are a changin’ in the Valley. With the ferocious Zips of Akron (apparently they’re kangaroos) descending on Beaver Stadium this weekend, the citizens of Paternoville held a pre-season town meeting on Monday to discuss battle tactics.
