“The Ataris were just here last semester, right?” was all one could hear when waiting outside of Sozo yesterday as a rush of people flooded in to see the pop punk quartet before they left for the semester. Everyone wondered what they’d be playing tonight. New songs? Old songs? It left a crowd full of punks clueless as they waited to see the early 2000s pop-rock sensations only six months after their last tour stop.
Overall it was a great show.
The Ataris’ set list was comprised mostly of songs from 2003’s platinum effort So Long, Astoria – a smart choice overall. …
Mike. Photographed in Atherton Hall.
It’s hot outside – something foreign after surviving this semester. There’s no reason to abandon fashion in favor of that “tan” you’ve been working on all weekend though. Mike exhibits the beauty of simplicity perfectly on this gorgeous day. A blue oxford and a dark colored pair of chinos (they’re not pleated, don’t be afriad!) is always a winning combination when it comes to casual campus wear. His sneakers match flawlessly (Onitsuka Tigers anyone?!) and by tucking in the shirt he elevates the outfit to a totally new level of class. Rolling up the sleeves and …
Garrett Bogden – the student behind Nittany Booking – is nothing short of amazing when it comes to providing State with live music. He’s booked one last show before he moves on to the post-graduation world many of us dread. With only a few weeks until showtime, he wanted word spread fast. OS has the inside:

Mark. Photographed on Pollock Road.
I feel like the readers should be able to figure out why I chose this one. Retro-styled cardigan, vintage-esque headphones, those 80’s dayglo sunglasses – they all make for a highly unique image. It may be a bit too rough around the edges for my taste, but there’s a definite committment to the school of alternative/indie/counterculture/whatever you call it. Great execution overall.
Ramon. Photographed Outside the McAllister Building.
I tip my hat to Ramon. This is fly. Period. First look at the details: the graphics on the belt, his watch, the use of a “shine-based” motif – all of these are brilliant. Then check how Ramon integrates them. A white tee and black denim to me are a blank canvas. Sometimes one should go very Dada with it and leave it as is, but it also leaves room for personal accents like Ramon uses here. A busy graphic tee or non-neutral colored pair of pants would be an overload. Notice the jacket material. …
With Greek Week in full force this week, OS decided to get to the heart of the matter and interview Interfraternity Council (IFC) President Luke Pierce. I had the chance to sit down with Luke and learn about his beliefs both Greek related and not. His responses were at times surprising, yet he shows great promise and ambition as a student leader in the large (and highly organized) Greek community. Even more flattering: he’s an avid OS reader. This Sigma Alpha Epsilon (colloquially SAE) brother was incredibly gracious and taught this GDI a great deal about what it means to …
“There’s No Place Like Home.” Photographed in the HUB.
The shoes say it all. A nice peacoat does wonders for this look, too. Black with gold jewelery adds for extra class. A grandslam if I ever saw one.
As you know, The Natty Nittany has been devoted to covering the best in Penn State fashion this past year. Everyone’s favorite newspaper – The Daily Collegian – has also taken their eyes to the street on a similar mission the past five years with a section they title “Take Five“ I am Fashion. I appreciate this interest in fashion – something that may be slightly underplayed here at Penn State. Yet, I feel as if our friends at the Collegian are sending the wrong message with today’s entry.
Elizabeth Puddu is well dressed – I won’t deny her this. Her …
Freshman Style. Photographed on College Ave.
Something you don’t see everyday on campus. This is a good look. There’s a lot to be taken from this outfit. See what you can find. Have a nice weekend and stay well dressed at those parties, Penn State!
Elisa. Photographed on College Ave.
Sunny days always yield great fashion in University Park. Here we have a wonderful use of basics. Nothing in particular screams for attention, but as a whole this look commands it. Tights with leg warmers – while many may consider something that should have been left in the 80s – looks great when no “highlighter tones” are involved. The scarf has subtle coloring amidst the black and white buffalo pattern, further decorating the class emitted by the plain front, black tee. The black moccasin style flats round it all out. A flawless execution – the judges …
Chris. Photographed on College Ave.
Not only is he incredibly gracious, Chris is also incredibly well dressed. This post is a pop quiz for all the readers. Comment and we’ll see why you think Chris is potentially the “Nattiest” Nittany yet. Think details!
Matt. Photographed on Pollock Road.
To my beloved readers -
He’s NOT wearing skinny jeans. Can we call a truce? If this were a section to be artsy and creative, the title of this photo would be “Shades of Gray“. Matt does a great job executing a combination of neutral tones in this outfit without making them look mismatched. The black leather allows his shoes to properly punctuate the wash of his denim. His scarf – a classic – decorates his white tee and jeans and makes a very casual look appear like designer chic. The denim jacket gives it a sort …
Our friends at Nittany Booking are doing their best to go out with a bang this semester. Almost in rapid-fire succession, they’ve managed to bring us an April full of exciting bands to see. Today OS was released word of one more – possibly the final concert of the spring semester.

Dr. David and Nina Kraft. Photographed on College Avenue.
Returning for the 50th Anniversary of his Ph.D. in Physics, Dr. Kraft is nothing short of incredible. With his wife Nina, they make potentially the most adorable couple State College has ever had the pleasure of hosting. The colors of her twed blazer match perfectly with his sport coat and shirt. This is a couple who knows how to look good together! The pocket square helps make this transition even smoother. A small detail that many men forget – a pocket square can do so much for an outfit. The other thing …
