I got a chance to talk to Keith Murray, lead singer and guitarist for We Are Scientists last night while he personally manned the band’s merch table. Armed with a list of ten questions solicited from my fellow concert goers, I took this opportunity to learn a little more about him and the band. The interview was enlightening to say the least. Read on to see what I found out…

Imagine living in the city while trying to make no environmental impact in your daily life. Could you do it? Tomorrow the Schreyer Honors College Student Council will present No Impact Man, a documentary about a man that did.
No Impact Man follows the Beavan family on their year-long journey toward entirely sustainable lives in Manhattan. The film presents a real, down-to-earth account of what it’s like for materialists to transition to a “green” way of life. It shows the doubt and frustration that goes into the journey toward an impactless life.
We can all do much more to be sustainable human beings. Consider it a great big kiss to mother nature for …

As the Schreyer Honors College prepares to read the application essays of the incoming class of 2014, Dean Christian Brady posted this on the SHC website, giving his thoughts about what makes a person a scholar.
For many people and institutions the pursuit of knowledge is an admirable end in and of itself. That is not our view. Knowledge is nothing but data. Without wisdom and application it may as well remain undiscovered. That is why we say, with all sincerity, that at Penn State and in the Schreyer Honors College we are seeking to shape the people who shape the …

A mass gathering of skinny jeans, plaid shirts, and v-necks could only mean one thing: a free concert at the HUB. Last night, PacSun’s PacTour stopped halfway through their forty-five day jaunt to put on a free show in Alumni Hall. Eh, allow me to swap words – I’m not sure it could really be called a ‘show’. Let’s call it a “mini music marathon.” Yes, over a four-hour span, five, count ‘em, five bands took the makeshift, smoke laden stage.

An Early Ending kicked off the night, with a heaaaavy five song set. The crowd was stiffer than a morgue …

If you live off campus, then you know that Wal-Mart recently gave out a buttload of $5 gift cards to residents of State College. But what you may not know is that UPUA would like to put these gift cards to good use this holiday season.
Matt Smith, Chief of Staff in UPUA, has devised a plan: everyone who received a gift card brings it to the UPUA office (341 HUB); they then donate it to the State College Area Food Bank, where it is then used to buy food for the local needy and homeless. I mean really, what would …

Happy Election Day! Time to celebrate democracy!
George Washington didn’t fight the American Revolution for nothing. Cast your ballot and change America, or at least State College.
Miller or Madeira for district attorney? You decide.
Goreham or Wakeley for mayor? You decide.
A whole bunch of people running for borough council? Pick three and call it a day.
Vote wherever you voted last year. Students in different dorms need not re-register. Just bring two different forms of ID and arrive at your designated polling place TODAY between 7 am and 8 pm. Be there!

Norman Finkelstein will speak on campus tonight to discuss the the Palestine/Israel conflict. A pro-Palestinian scholar and orator, he supports the two-state solution, as do most nations.
The Students for Justice in Palestine group, a sponsor of the event, hoped to locate a speaker with opposing viewpoints in order to facilitate a debate of sorts.
They contacted Hillel, Chabad, the Israel Alliance, various members of the Jewish Studies department, and some outside pro-Israel groups. All parties denied the invitation. But why?
According to the SJP, Finkelstein is undebatable. A political scientist focusing on the Palestine/Israel conflict, he knows the facts better than any …
