With two national titles and four Big Ten Championships to its name, the Penn State Nittany Lions football program is coming off a year where it captured its first conference title under James Franklin. Known for tradition, Beaver Stadium, and Joe Paterno, the program is a point of pride in the community after the team persevered following harsh NCAA sanctions that eliminated wins and placed scholarship reductions on the program. The team will try to make even more strides with Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley leading the charge for the 2017 season.

1 LB Glenn Carson is Living Up to the Challenge

Glenn Andrew Carson Jr. was a standout high school football player and wrestler in high school, just as his father and namesake was before him. A three-time state finalist during his time at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, NJ, Carson could have chosen a collegiate wrestling career. But instead he was recruited by Joe Paterno to come play football for the Nittany Lions, and thus far it looks like he made a great decision.

16 Game Day Observations: Eastern Michigan

It was a beautiful afternoon for football Saturday in Happy Valley topped off by an even more beautiful result as Penn State trounced Eastern Michigan 45-7. Last Saturday in New Jersey was a great time, but there’s no place like home in Beaver Stadium. The home opener is always an interesting experience, because we get to see all the programming changes for the year ahead. And there were certainly plenty of those.

1 John Cappelletti’s Number The First To Be Retired By Penn State Football

John Cappelletti is probably the best player to ever set foot on the Beaver Stadium field. He’s the only Nittany Lion that has won the Heisman Trophy. He was the best player on an undefeated 12-0 team in 1973 that Joe Paterno has called the best team he ever coached, a team that should’ve had a shot at the national championship that season. It’s fitting that Cappelletti would also be the first Penn State football player to have his number retired.

8 Penn State’s Victory Over Syracuse Honored With Awful Shirt

Today in “this is stupid”: Penn State’s 23-17 victory over Syracuse is being honored with a terrible, terrible T-shirt.

The shirt is being sold by GoPSUSports.com, and features the score, location, day, and the words “VICTORY” obnoxiously placed under a football helmet.

For $17.95, you can remember Penn State’s season-opening win with a T-shirt. Seriously. They played a football game at an NFL arena, HOLY CHRIST LET’S MAKE A SHIRT AND CAPITALIZE ON THIS.

4 Take Aways From Penn State’s Season-Opening Victory

It certainly wan’t pretty, but Penn State left MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ the victors on Saturday night after defeating Syracuse 23-17. Freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg had some very high highs and a few very low lows, but he was a major bright spot in the game. It was closer than it should have been at the end, but the win is all that really matters to this team and the Nittany Lions are undefeated after opening day against a resectable program.
