It is an exciting time to be a student at Penn State! Each fall semester brings with it the thrill of Penn State football, entertaining concerts at the BJC, and canning for THON. This November, there will be yet another exciting event happening throughout the University Park campus: the “21 Day Challenge”.
What exactly is the 21 Day Challenge? It is to read through one chapter of the Gospel of John per day beginning on November 1, 2013. If successful, you will complete the challenge on November 21, 2013. With approximately 30,000 copies of the Gospel of John spread across campus, about a dozen campus ministries have decided to come together and serve the Penn State community by dedicating themselves to spending time with students as they complete the Challenge.
Why does this matter to you? Many of you are curious, filled with lingering or developing questions about God. Whether you have never stepped foot in a church or have been going to church since you were a child, you might be asking yourself questions such as: Is there a God? Can I know Him? If I could know God’s thoughts and desires for my life, would I want to? Where does Jesus fit into the equation, or what is the meaning of the Cross?
In addition, for those of us approaching graduation, there is a mountain of important life decisions to be made such as: What do I do now? Where will I be living next year? Who will I be working for? We’ve been dating for years now, is it time to get married? These are overwhelming, daunting decisions that can lead to difficult circumstances if we don’t take the time now to ask ourselves: Who am I and what is my purpose in life? We all have had these questions, and with this Challenge, each person has the special opportunity to find out the answer for themselves!
How can you get involved? First, check out the Challenge website, www.PSUchallenge.com, where you can: sign up for the Challenge, find a discussion group in your dorm area or The HUB, or post on our Gospel of John blog. The first 1,000 people to sign up will receive a free 21 Day Challenge t-shirt!
Second, we will be having a kickoff event! Join us on Friday, November 1 at 7:30 PM in the Schwab Auditorium, where we will have several ministries lead us in a night of excitement and joy around the truths from the Gospel of John.
This is an unprecedented challenge in Happy Valley. We are excited for what is to come on November 1, and we hope you will join us!
