Student Life-Flighted To UPMC-Altoona After Three-Vehicle Crash

A 26-year old Penn State student was flown by Life Flight to UPMC-Altoona last night after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Atherton and Beaver Ave.

According to a press release from State College Police, the student was traveling southbound onĀ Atherton approaching Beaver Ave. when his vehicle collided with another which then collided with a third vehicle that was stopped on Atherton waiting to turn left onto Beaver. After the collision, the student’s vehicle struck the curb and rolled over once. The vehicle landed on its wheels facing East on Beaver Ave.

Police rescued the student from the vehicle and EMS transported him to Community Field where he was taken by helicopter to UPMC-Altoona. State College Police provided no further update on the student’s condition in the release.

The drivers and passengers in the other two vehicles sustained only minor injuries and neither were taken to the hospital though all three vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation is ongoing but State College Police indicated at this time that speed and an unsafe lane change appear to have been the cause of the crash.
