Code Blue: New Athletics Points Program Unveiled

Starting this fall, students will have an added incentive to support Penn State’s 29 varsity sports in the form of a rewards program called “Code Blue.”

The program will be structured in such a way that students will simply need to swipe their PSU id+ at the sporting event they attend to receive points, so there is no sign-up or registration required. Games and events will be assigned point levels, with some varsity sports offering a point for every game or match attended. Students will have the opportunity to earn three points for attending designated games or matches on the schedule.

The rewards structure will include multiple levels of prizes, with those accumulating enough points to be in the top 250 guaranteed football tickets for the upcoming season. Those in the top 10 will receive their football tickets free of charge.

“Code Blue” will be a student-run initiative supported by Penn State SAAB (Student Athlete Advisory Board) and Penn State PRIDE (the Penn State Sportsmanship Team). Details of the program are still being finalized, according to the Penn State Athletic Department. However, members of SAAB seem enthusiastic about the partnership.

“SAAB is very excited to gear up with PRIDE: The Penn State Sportsmanship Team to further promote athletics,” said Anna Muzio, the captain of women’s track and field and the vice president of SAAB, in an email. “By attending Code Blue games and events, we hope to highlight our 29 varsity sports and encourage attendance at other athletic sponsored events as well.”
