DeAndre Thompkins Commits to Penn State

Penn State received its fifth commit for 2014 today, and it may be its biggest one yet.

The recruit comes in the form of DeAndre Thompkins, a 6-0 170 lb. receiver from Swansboro, North Carolina. Thompkins is rated as a 3-star prospect by Rivals and Scout but four stars by 247 Sports. ESPN is extremely high on Thompkins, rating him as a 4-star prospect and the 54th best player in their Top 150.

Thompkins picked the Nittany Lions over an impressive list of offers that included Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and West Virginia.

Some recruiting sites list Thompkins as an athlete with the ability to also play cornerback, but should he remain on the offensive side of the ball, Thompkins will become part of an impressive group of receivers that already includes Allen Robinson, Eugene Lewis, Brandon Moseby-Felder, and the incoming DaeSean Hamilton.

The other players currently committed to Bill O’Brien’s program for the Class of 2014 include running backs Nick Scott and Mark Allen, linebacker Troy Reeder, and recently committed wide receiver Troy Apke.
