Garth Brooks Returning To BJC In May After 18 Years
He completely sold out during his visit to the Bryce Jordan Center in 1997 — let’s see if he can do it again.
Country music legend Garth Brooks will return to the Bryce Jordan Center for two shows on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, both at 7 p.m according to a release from the BJC. The pair of appearances is part of Brooks’ comeback-from-retirement tour, dubbed the Garth Brooks World Tour. Brooks, who has been called the “King of Country Music” during his career, will bring along fellow country music legend and his wife, Trisha Yearwood.
During his last visit to Penn State in the late 1990s, Brooks sold out five shows at the venue, earning him the title of fastest sellout in BJC history — that is, until a then up-and-coming country sensation Taylor Swift broke the record with her 12-minute sellout for her Fearless tour stop in 2009. Brooks’ time at the venue brought in 75,000 people to the BJC over the course of five days.
“I think if the technology was available in 1997 as it is today when we went on sale for Garth, it would have been just as fast [as Taylor Swift],” said Bernie Punt, BJC Sales and Marketing Director. “Both artists did, and would still do, tremendous business in this market.”
With that in mind, one can assume that things should go well for Brooks on this comeback tour, particularly here at Penn State. Brooks first announced plans for his retirement in 1999, but he came out with details on post-retirement plans earlier this year.
Tickets will go on sale next Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. for $74.98 each. You can purchase tickets online or via phone at 1-800-745-3000. After March 20, they will also be available at all Bryce Jordan Center ticket outlets.
Brooks is famous for his country music hits, including “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til The Sun Comes Up),” “The Dance,” “The Thunder Rolls” and “Friends in Low Places.”
