Penn State Seeking ‘Public Health Ambassadors’ To Enforce Coronavirus Mitigation Efforts

Penn State is looking for student, faculty, and staff volunteers to help enforce coronavirus mitigation efforts on campus this fall.

The new job opportunity, which refers to these positions as “public health ambassadors,” will help give students, faculty, staff, and guests information regarding Penn State’s coronavirus protocols. Potential roles include enforcing social distancing, mask-wearing, and proper hygiene.

Each position will start at $9.50 an hour, while students selected for “leadership positions” could make up to $10.25 an hour. Ambassadors would work for a minimum of 10 hours per week at specific areas around campus.

Work in these positions would begin on Monday, August 17 when students return to campus and last until November 20 when the university transitions to remote learning to finish the semester. Penn State said the program may be extended into the spring if necessary.

Interested students are encouraged to fill out an application, while employees should log into Workday to complete their own internal application. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through Friday, August 21. Those interested should provide a resume, cover letter, typical week availability, and class schedule when applying.

Candidates will receive training, face masks, hand sanitizer, and other supplies. They will also distribute “COVID-19 packets,” which include masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer, to anybody who requests one.
