Big Ten Releases Updated Fall Football Schedule

The Big Ten released its updated football schedule Saturday on FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff” show.

After several reports over the past few weeks, the conference finally announced Wednesday morning that it would resume its football season starting the weekend of October 24. The conference will require student-athletes, coaches, and “other individuals that are on the field” to undergo daily coronavirus testing.

Penn State’s delayed season will kick off in Bloomington against Indiana Saturday, October 24. The Nittany Lions have won their last six contests against the Hoosiers dating back to 2014, including a 34-27 victory this past fall.

After its opener against Indiana, Penn State will return home to take on Ohio State on October 31. The Halloween match up is already expected to be one of the Nittany Lions’ biggest tests of the year, as the Buckeyes will return plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. In case you needed a reminder, James Franklin’s squad fell to Ohio State 28-17 in Columbus last November.

Other teams Penn State will take on at Beaver Stadium include Maryland, Iowa, and Michigan State. The Nittany Lions will also take a trip to Nebraska during week four, where they haven’t been since 2012 for a 32-23 defeat to the Cornhuskers.

Penn State will also have a highly anticipated road trip to the Big House on November 28, and will close out the regular season at home in a battle for the beautiful Land-Grant Trophy against Michigan State.

Here’s a full look at Penn State’s updated 2020 schedule:

  • @ Indiana — October 24
  • Vs. Ohio State — October 31
  • Vs. Maryland — November 7
  • @ Nebraska — November 14
  • Vs. Iowa — November 21
  • @ Michigan — November 28
  • @ Rutgers — December 5
  • Vs. Michigan State — December 12
  • Big Ten Championship Weekend — December 19

All teams in the Big Ten, including the Nittany Lions, are currently set to play a nine-game season in nine weeks. The conference’s season will finish with the championship game on Saturday, December 19.

Even if teams do not qualify for the conference championship, all will play during the weekend of December 19. Seeds from the Big Ten’s East and West divisions will match up and play for their ninth and final games of the season.

By starting the season in mid-October, all teams in the Big Ten should still be eligible for a bid at the College Football Playoff. Dates are not set in stone, but the top four teams selected for the Playoff are set to be announced on Sunday, December 20.
