Penn State Football Ranked No. 8 In AP Top 25 Poll

Penn State football jumped one spot to No. 8 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.

James Franklin’s squad hasn’t played a game yet, but the Nittany Lions have remained in the top 10 of this year’s AP Polls that have included the Big Ten. Penn State opened at No. 7 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, but wasn’t included in the next two iterations of the ranking due to the Big Ten’s delayed start.

The Nittany Lions were joined by four other conference rivals in this week’s poll, including Ohio State (No. 5), Wisconsin (No. 14), Michigan (No. 18), and Minnesota (No. 21).

Penn State also moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week’s USA Today’s Coaches Poll. Ohio State (No. 5), Wisconsin (No. 14), Michigan (No. 17), and Minnesota (No. 21) were also included in that ranking.

While the second-highest ranked Big Ten team has yet to play, the Nittany Lions announced their captains for the 2020 season Friday night. The coaching staff once again selected eight captains this year, including Michal Menet, Sean Clifford, Jonathan Sutherland, and Pat Freiermuth. Those four are all returning captains, while the first-year selections were Shaka Toney, Lamont Wade, Jesse Luketa, and Jordan Stout.

Those leaders and the rest of the Nittany Lions will travel to Bloomington for their season opener against Indiana on Saturday, October 24. That contest will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and be broadcast on FS1.
