Penn State Graduate Killed In Car Crash

A recent Penn State graduate died in a car crash Saturday night near Richmond, Virginia.

Caroline Lonigro, 22, was killed in a collision at an intersection in Henrico County, Virginia.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that a grey 2020 Hyundai Elantra [driven by Lonigro] was stopped at the red light on Lauderdale Drive in the left turn lane. A Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on Patterson Avenue towards Goochland County,” a Henrico Police spokesperson told CBS6 Richmond. “The preliminary investigation reveals the Elantra proceeded under a green light when a crash occurred in the intersection between the Silverado and the Hyundai sedan.”

Reports said the impact caused Lonigro’s Hyundai to rotate into the eastbound lanes and the truck to roll over onto the driver’s side. Lonigro was later taken to a local medical center and succumbed to her injuries.

Police said no charges have been filed as of Monday morning. The crash remains under investigation by local officials.

Lonigro graduated from Penn State in May with a bachelor’s degree in security risk analysis and focused on intelligence analysis and modeling. She also spent time as a learning assistant at the university and helped students study spatial analysis and data analytics.

According to her father’s Facebook post, Lonigro was set to begin a new job this week. She is survived by two siblings, her mother and father, and three grandparents.

Our condolences go out to Lonigro’s family and friends during this difficult time.
