Penn State Football Returns To Rankings In ‘Way Too Early’ Top 25 Polls

It’s never too early to start talking about Penn State football, folks.

Just one day removed from Nick Saban winning his seventh national title, publications across the college football landscape have released ranking predictions for the start of the 2021 season.

Despite the Nittany Lions’ 4-5 record in 2020, analysts across the country expect a bounce-back year for James Franklin’s squad. Penn State’s highest way-too-early ranking came from 247Sports, which placed it at No. 17 in the country.

Meanwhile, ESPN and Bleacher Report ranked the Nittany Lions at No. 22 and No. 20, respectively. Both outlets agreed a healthier Penn State team should be able to rebound following an uncharacteristically disappointing season.

With eight projected starters returning on offense coupled with six on defense, Penn State shouldn’t lack experience entering the 2021 season. The return of veteran leaders like Jahan Dotson, Tariq Castro-Fields, and Jaquan Brisker should bolster a team littered with offseason moves. The addition of a prolific offensive coordinator, Mike Yurcich, should help the Nittany Lions get back on track, too.

Penn State has started the season in the preseason polls every year since 2017. In 235 days (but who’s counting?), the Nittany Lions will open the season on the road against Wisconsin…assuming things go as planned, of course.
