Penn State Wrestling-Rutgers Delayed Due To Positive COVID-19 Tests

Penn State wrestling’s season-opening dual with Rutgers has been postponed due to positive coronavirus tests within the program, the team announced Wednesday night.

The road matchup was originally slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16.

According to a release, an undisclosed number of positive coronavirus tests were found among “Tier 1” personnel, which includes student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff, and officials.

Penn State did not respond to a request for comment to elaborate on specific details of the positive coronavirus tests.

As a result, the team has postponed all team-related activities. In the meantime, both Penn State and Rutgers will work with the Big Ten and attempt to reschedule the dual.

“No determination has been made on how the pause may impact scheduled matches beyond January 16,” Penn State said in a statement.

Should the team resume activities soon, its next dual would be on Sunday, January 24, when the Nittany Lions face Michigan State at Rec Hall.
