Lamont Wade Declares For 2021 NFL Draft

Penn State football safety Lamont Wade has officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft, according to a video clip posted on his Twitter account Thursday night.

“I’m blessed to be an alumnus of the Pennsylvania State University,” Wade said. “Now, I have the chance to be a part of the 1.7% that go on and play football in the NFL.”

In his video, Wade thanked his teammates, friends, coaches, and family for helping him make it this far. He particularly emphasized how playing college football (and potentially professional football) was always a dream of his.

Wade finished his Penn State career with 153 total tackles in 47 games played. The Clairton, Pa. native also added three sacks, one interception, 11 pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, and four forced fumbles as a Nittany Lion.

After begging his coaches for some time on special teams, Wade finally got his chance against Illinois back in December. He returned a kick 102 yards *to the house* for a spectacular touchdown. Now that is how you end a career.

Wade is now the fourth Nittany Lion to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft so far this cycle. He joins defensive ends Jayson Oweh and Shaka Toney, as well as tight end Pat Freiermuth, in moving on to the pros. Additionally, former star linebacker Micah Parsons, who opted out of Penn State’s 2020 season, is poised for a first-round selection.
