Penn State Golf Courses Named Among Top 50 Public Facilities In America

The Penn State Golf Courses have been named among the top 50 public facilities in the country by the Golf Range Association of America.

The GRAA, which publishes reputable golf magazines such as “Met Golfer” and “PGA Magazine,” released the list on January 7.

“These public facilities introduced the game of golf to a variety of new golfers, while retaining and inspiring current golfers,” the GRAA wrote on its website. “Through player development programming, customer engagement and community outreach, our 2020 award winners should be proud of their efforts in growing the game.”

The Penn State Golf Courses are joined on the list by several prestigious courses such as Chambers Bay, The Greenbrier, and TPC Sawgrass.

John Hughes, general manager of the Penn State Golf Courses, said in a statement that he is proud of the work his staff has done during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our team has worked really hard all year to create an environment where our community feels comfortable and continues to utilize our golf courses and practice facilities,” Hughes said. “Our numbers have held over this past year and it is a reflection of the time and dedication our staff has taken to create a welcoming environment during these difficult times.”

The golf courses’ driving range is equipped with 36 mats, as well as four putting greens and a short game area near the clubhouse.

Despite not offering tee times during the winter season, two indoor swing simulators are open for use by reservation. Tee times for the simulators can be made by contacting the golf shop here.
