German Athlete Jan Mahlert Commits To Penn State Football As Preferred Walk-On
Willkommen to Happy Valley, Jan Mahlert.
Fewer than two weeks after being offered by the Nittany Lions, the wide receiver/free safety combo athlete announced he’s committing to Penn State as a preferred
walk-on run-on. He’ll be a member of Penn State’s 2021 recruiting class.
Mahlert previously played American football for the Fursty Razorbacks, a club located in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany. The organization was founded in 1986 and has different teams across a variety of age groups.
While Mahlert doesn’t have traditional American high school football experience, his uncanny athleticism is certainly impressive. He runs a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, boasts a 10′ 8″ broad jump, and has showcased his skills countless times on Twitter through some absurd videos.
The athlete racked up 22 touchdowns and 2135 total yards on the offensive side of the ball during his 2019 season, according to his Twitter page. Mahlert also secured five interceptions and was named league MVP during that same year.
He’ll join a 2021 class headlined by offensive lineman Landon Tengwall and early enrollees like Kalen King and Christian Veilleux, who are already making impacts for the Nittany Lions
And, above all else, Mahlert has proven he’s ready for the State College tundra.
