Congressman Glenn Thompson to Visit Ag Fraternity Alpha Zeta

On Thursday February 3rd, Congressman Glenn Thompson (R-PA 5th district) will visit the Brothers and Sisters of Alpha Zeta Fraternity. He’ll be inducted as an honorary member of Alpha Zeta. Alpha Zeta is an honorary, professional, co-ed, agricultural Fraternity and is the oldest agricultural fraternity at Penn State. The Brothers and Sisters of the Fraternity chose Congressman Thompson for honorary membership because he has portrayed leadership, knowledge and dedication to the agricultural industry.

The Congressman has been invited for a special dinner held in his honor. Also in attendance will be more than 25 Penn State faculty members, including the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences Dr. Bruce McPheron. Following the reception, Congressman Thompson will receive his honorary membership, which has always been reserved for the most influential individuals in the agricultural industry.

Some past honorary members are Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. After Congressman Thompson’s induction into the fraternity, guests will have the opportunity to interact with Congressman Thompson about his time spent serving as an elected official and how this generation of students will affect agriculture in the future.
Thompson was elected to congress in 2008 and was recently reelected for a second term. The 5th district that Glenn Thompson serves is the largest geographical district in the Commonwealth, which spans 17 counties from Crawford to Juniata Counties. Thompson serves on the House Agricultural Committee. In the Agricultural Committee, he serves as a member for the Subcommittee on Specialty Crops, Rural Development and Foreign Agriculture, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy and Research. Thompson serves on two subcommittees for the Committee on Education and Labor.

The Brothers and Sisters of Alpha Zeta are honored to have Congressman Thompson and look forward to his event on Thursday.
