Penn State Graduates Live on One Dollar a Day

When asked the question “what is the minimum dollar amount per day that you could survive on?” the answer is usually more than one dollar. However, when Matt Jones and his brother Andrew Jones, along with their two friends travelled to Haiti, they decided to live on just that: one dollar per day. In a video released on August 14th, the Bucks County natives and Penn State graduates chronicle their journey to Haiti where they live in poverty just like the Haitian natives.

Penn State Student Aspires to be Stinky-Man-Child-Living-In-A-Van This Semester

Yesterday, "7mgte" posted that he is seriously considered living in a van this semester to save some cash and just like, yanno, do it for shits and gigs. Oh but he also said he hopes this will help him focus on schoolwork and stay healthy. Of course, most commenters tore him apart, letting him know how moronic his plan was (and hello? smelly?). But some people brought up valid points.

State College Spikes to Hold Fundraiser FTK

If you needed a sure sign that the THON season is right around the corner, look no further. The State College Spikes game on September 2 at 6:05 p.m. will be benefit THON, an annual event held by the local Pittsburgh Pirates minor league affiliate. Tickets are $6 and a portion of the proceeds will go to support THON’s efforts in raising money for pediatric cancer.

PA Voter ID Law Upheld

This morning a Pennsylvania state judge upheld the controversial voter ID law proposed by Governor Tom Corbett requiring individuals to show valid forms of photo identification at polling places on election day. See how the law affects Penn State students moving forward.

Sugar Ray Leonard and Elizabeth Smart to Speak at Sexual Abuse Conference

Following the Jerry Sandusky scandal, one of president Rodney Erickson's goals has been for the university to become "a leader in the research, prevention, and treatment of child abuse." One step towards that goal will be a two-day conference in late October at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel featuring several child abuse survivors along with professors who have dedicated much of their research to the topic.

Weather World Meteorologists Earn Emmy Nomination

Jon Nese and Marisa Ferger are two members of the Penn State Meteorology Department. They have been nominated for an Emmy for their segment WeatherWhys, which can be seen on the television show, Weather World.
