In recent years, the State Theatre has provided a venue for students, faculty, and community members to get exposure to less mainstream films throughout the semester. These are often high quality pieces that didn't make it to the big-ticket theaters. This fall is no different, as the "State" has a schedule littered with quality films and performing acts. Here's a schedule of some upcoming films.
Yesterday afternoon, a few "lucky" students and community members living in off-campus apartments had the opportunity to get a brief introduction to a few noteworthy individuals in the Penn State and State College communities as part of the 2011 LION Walk. The goal of the event is to promote a smoother relationship between students and town residents by having community leaders and university administrators knock on residents' doors to start conversations.
Matisyahu is coming back to Penn State in a couple weeks to perform an accoustic set at the HUB as part of the Penn State Jewish Life Festival. Matisyahu, best known for his unique use of reggae, and hip-hop to share traditional Jewish themes, will headline the concert on September 8.
While many of you were away from State College this summer, Fraser Street has been undergoing a major realignment. The construction is intended to straighten the intersection of Fraser and Beaver. The project is part of an effort to improve that region of town, while construction of the Fraser Centre remains pending. In addition to the Fraser intersection, construction projects have been undertaken to widen the sidewalk in front of Green Bowl and Saint's Cafe.

Penn State was announced late last week as one of 29 first-class American institutions of higher education involved in a project that is expected to provide a boom for broadband access in their respective communities. The Gig.U project is still in its infancy but, according to Penn State Vice Provost for Information Technology Kevin Morooney, it appears to be a game-changer for the university community.
