Another month has passed and more legal bills have piled up at Old Main. Since the scandal began last November, Penn State has spent $25,926,451 on legal and public relations services.
On Friday, Pennsylvania State Senator Jake Corman, who represents the 34th district that includes State College, announced that he is suing the NCAA to prevent the organization from using Penn State's $60 million fine outside of the state lines.
Penn State, which is not involved in the expected lawsuit filed against the NCAA by governor Tom Corbett, released a statement regarding the matter.
The family of the late Joe Paterno issued a statement this morning prior to Governor Tom Corbett's press conference at the Nittany Lion Inn. Within the statement, they praise Corbett's decision to file a lawsuit against the NCAA and claim that the family review of the Freeh Report is nearing completion.
The State of Pennsylvania is preparing to sue the NCAA, according to Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated. Although the lawsuit comes on the heels of the historic NCAA penalties levied in July, Penn State is believed not to be involved. One University official claims that “Penn State has no involvement in this suit,” per the report.
