
Fans who can't make it out to Beaver Stadium will be able to listen to some familiar voices call the game, at least for the next three years. Radio personalities Steve Jones and Jack Ham each received contract extensions yesterday through the 2015 season.

With less than two weeks until Penn State's season starts, the athletic department is trying to push season tickets.

John Bacon is a writer, public speaker, and college professor at Northwestern and Michigan who has taken a strong interest in sports -- especially college football -- over the course of his career, authoring five books on the subject. Last season, Bacon injected himself in four Big Ten football programs -- Ohio State, Northwestern, Michigan, and of course, Penn State -- to write his newest book, Fourth and Long: The Fight for the Soul of College Football.

Despite facing strict roster limitations and an uncertain quarterback situation, Penn State football has received two votes in the Associated Press's preseason top-25 poll.

ESPN gave Penn State fans a taste of what's in store for its Training Days feature in a short video clip released today. Cameras have been following around coach Bill O'Brien and the team during training camp for a one-hour ESPN or ESPN2 special to air Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., to be followed by a series of 30-minute features. And if this clip is any indication, we're in for a real treat.

It's hard to argue that anyone on Penn State's football team was more heavily criticized last season than kicker Sam Ficken. Ficken assumed the job after starting kicker/punter Anthony Fera transferred to Texas to be with his ailing mother.
