Penn State and its police department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the reported gatherings.

Warren said the conference's leadership was "overwhelmingly in support" of postponing fall sports and stated the topic won't be revisited.

"Furloughs at a minimum, are in our immediate future."

Moving forward, Penn State Athletics will report unaggregated testing figures on a weekly basis.

"While I appreciate the complexities and difficulties of this decision for the leaders of our conference, I am extremely frustrated because we still have very few answers to communicate to our young men and their families."
