[FTK] THON 2012 Breaks $10 Million

Late this afternoon, yet another chapter was added to the story of this historic year at Penn State. But whereas the past few months have been tragic, marked by sadness and suffering, the past few days have entailed something different altogether. In a year that has tried even the most proud Penn Stater, THON 2012 provided an oasis of hope, surrounded by a sea of color. And what’s more, they broke records while doing it.

THON 2012 raised $10,686,924.83, breaking the THON 2011 fundraising total. This year also marks the first time that the Penn State Dance Marathon hit the ten-digit mark, a staggering increase of $1,123,908.74 over last year.

As Jay Paterno told the 708 dancers just before the start of Family Hour, echoing the words of his late father, ““If you live to be 100 years old, what you’ve done here for the last two days, weeks, months…what you’ve done here will echo in eternity.”

That remains to be seen. But, Penn State, rest assured: What you’ve done here will, at the very least, echo through the lives of dozens, if not hundreds, of children for the rest of their lives.

We’ll be bringing you a recap soon. In the meantime, check out the full list of this year’s top THON fundraisers below, and the rest of our coverage here.
