Penn State Men’s Soccer Schedule Announced

The Penn State men’s soccer schedule was published Tuesday, and it includes a number of games that are sure to be memorable as the Nittany Lions look to win their third Big Ten title in a row.

The season kicks off Friday, August 29th at 8 p.m. against Oakland. That’s the Friday night of syllabus week, so if you’re looking to take a day off from partying, stop by Jeffrey Field.

The Nittany Lions will play out-of-conference rivalry games at home v. Temple on Sept. 5 and against UPenn on Sept. 24. In addition, they’ll take on 2013 title runners-up and Big Ten newbies Maryland in College Park on Oct. 12. Maryland sports the best goalie in NCAA soccer in Zack Steffen, who allowed just 1.14 goals per game in making the All-Freshman team and winning the NCAA Championship Most Valuable Defensive Player award last season. Steffen is widely seen as the future in goal for the US Men’s National Team, and is originally from Downingtown, Pa.

Penn State returns the Big Ten’s second-best goalie in Andrew Wolverton and an excellent midfielder trio of assist leader Connor Maloney (who is a midfielder/forward hybrid), returning top scorer Eli Dennis, and two-time all-Big Ten choice and captain Owen Griffith.
