Board of Trustees to Hold Special Meeting on Freeh Report

The Board of Trustees will hold a special public meeting at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28 to discuss Al Lord’s resolution about its acceptance of the Freeh Report.

Lord proposed the resolution to re-investigate what Freeh examined at the board’s meeting in July, and it’s since gained traction. At the last board meeting in September, Lord revealed that the board had met in executive session to discuss the much-maligned report, and he asked that the board meet within 30 days to take a vote. This meeting will be closer to 40 days after the request, but he got his wish.

“The feeling among the board is that they don’t accept the conclusions reached by Louis Freeh,” Trustee Anthony Lubrano said. “Our challenge now is to get them to say that publicly.”

Lubrano said the feelings on the board toward the Freeh Report aren’t as black and white as they may seem. Twenty of its 30 voting members joined after the events of November 2011, 17 of whom joined after the release of the report. He said that if the board votes on the resolution, the way the votes will fall will depend on what the resolution looks like, as the board’s September executive session could result in some modifications.

The Lord resolution has hung over the board since its proposal, even as it comes nearer to approving other big picture items like reformation. Recently, UPUA dramatically opposed the resolution after a closed-door meeting.

The meeting will take place at Ballroom C of the Nittany Lion Inn and will be streamed online, and the trustees will meet in private before the public session begins. This news was first reported by Philly.com.
