DOTD: Former Pitt Head Coach Mocks Penn State In Front Of James Franklin

If James Franklin needed any more motivation to obliterate Pitt when the two schools renew their hate-fueled interstate rivalry, he got it during Fox Sports’ pregame coverage prior to the Big Ten Championship Game.

To say things took an awkward twist would be an understatement. Former Pitt Head Coach Dave Wannstedt, who resigned from the school in 2010, didn’t hesitate to make fun of Penn State for its dismal performance against Michigan State mere feet away from Franklin. The scene grew somewhat uncomfortable, and even though Wannstedt’s comments were made in jest, it’s a bit odd that he’d rip on the Nittany Lions right in front of the school’s head coach. I’m sure Franklin wasn’t happy on the inside, but he played it off in a joking manner while on live television.

Poor Matt Leinart is left to try and mitigate the awkward situation, but mostly fails as he’s left to cringe at the choice comments made by his co-analyst.
