NFL Executives Weigh In On Saquon Barkley, Link Him With Pro Bowlers And Super Bowl Winners

NFL.com’s CFB 24/7 released another edition of its “Ask 5” series, where five anonymous NFL executives weigh in on a topic in college football — which this week’s, of course, is the game’s hottest topic: Saquon Barkley.

This week’s Ask 5 question, “What’s the best NFL comparison for Saquon Barkley,” elicited a lot of praise for the Penn State Heisman contender.

“My first thought — Superman. Since I can’t use him, I’ll say [2016 Pro Bowler] David Johnson,” the first executive said, comparing Barkley to the first team All-Pro Arizona Cardinals running back for both of their qualities as three-down backs.

“Barkley’s lower-body strength and explosiveness are pretty tough to match, though,” he continued.

Three other executives compared Barkley to Kansas City Chiefs rookie Kareem Hunt, retired four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Corey Dillon, and Cincinnati Bengals rookie Joe Mixon, for everything from body frame, speed, physicality, and Barkley’s other freakish traits.

The last executive managed to top it all with his Barkley comparison to Dallas Cowboy Pro Bowler and former Big Ten MVP for Ohio State Ezekiel Elliott, throwing it all back to the meeting between the two during Barkley’s freshman year in 2015.

“I was at the game a few years ago when Elliott and Barkley shared the same field,” the fifth NFL executive said. “As impressive as Elliott was, Barkley was the better player. They have similar skill sets but Barkley is better in every area.”
