The Calm Before the Storm

One week from today students will return to the Valley where beer flows like wine and beautiful women instinctively flock like the Salmon of Capistrano.

One week from today students will begin where they left off in their educational pursuits.

One week from today this town will be happenin’!

But, for the time being, this town is DEAD! Its 1:30 am on a Saturday morning and there are only four foreign exchange students at Canyon Pizza, nine open tables at Cafe 210’s outdoor seating area, and cops setting up a speed trap on West College Ave.

It is the calm before the storm. The week in between the end of summer finals and the beginning of fall semester. The contrast will be unbelievable in one week.

I love Happy Valley as much as the next guy but I’ve realized something here over the summer. State College has some quaint things to offer and take advantage of, but unless there are 50,000 of my friends to share that with, it’s just no fun!

I know lots of you can’t wait to get back to school. Well, the lonely bars and I can’t wait until you get back here either! Hurry!

PSU Cadets to Teach Air Force a Thing or Two

This past year under the leadership of Colonel Steven Drago, the Penn State Detachment of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) developed a new way to teach Air Power doctrine and air superiority theory. Unlike the local Army ROTC detachment, future Air Force officers cannot practice some of the key skills they will need when they go active duty.
