GoPSUSports Lede: Too Soon?

Update 9:07 am: GoPSUSports.com has removed the offensive lede from its article.

Something about the GoPSUSports.com recap of last night’s basketball game between the Nittany Lions and Mount St. Mary’s didn’t sit quite right. No, it wasn’t the fact that the Lions were tied with 30 seconds left in the game to a team whose college many would be hard pressed to find on a map (Emmitsburg, Maryland).

On the 69th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks that launched America into the second World War, GoPSUSports included into its game recap a rather interesting lede.

“On the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Penn State almost fell victim to a surprise attack of its own.” reads the first line of the recap. What do you think? Is this insensitive, ignorant or a non-issue? Let us know in the comments.

An earlier version of this post incorrectly listed the location of Mount St. Mary’s as Newburgh, New York. It has since been corrected.

Three Words: For the Glory

When I sat back one night in January thinking about my time at Penn State, I tried to come up with a single word that would adequately describe my experiences here. As I attempted to determine what that magic word might be, my mind began to grasp the absurdity of that challenge. How could I possibly distill four years of my life, countless friendships, and untold numbers of memories, down to a single word? An impossible task to be sure. So instead, I took the easier road and went with three words: For the Glory.
