The collegiate men's volleyball landscape is quite different than most other college sports. There are only a few schools that compete, and there are only three major conferences that earn tournament berths. Only four schools play in the NCAA Tournament, and other than the three automatic berths, the fourth spot almost always goes to a western university. Because of this, the regular season does not have the same meaning for the Penn State men's volleyball team that it does for other sports. Last Sunday, the Nittany Lions took on Ohio State, and the feeling in Rec Hall was different--this match mattered.
The Sierra Club Moshannon Group is sponsoring the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour's trip to State College. Award-winning documentaries and short films will be shown tonight and Wednesday at The State Theatre downtown. Penn State alumni Frank and Janet Dudek committed $2.5 million yesterday to the University to support several academic units. The donation will help establish scholarships, support research and purchase laboratory equipment for the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the Eberly College of Science.
Approximately 1,600 participants on 156 teams persisted through cold, rainy, muddy conditions to raise $97,880.95 for the American Cancer Society.
