Following President Obama's announcement that US Special Forces have killed Osama bin Laden, thousands of students gathered on Beaver Avenue between McAllister and Garner streets to celebrate the event. Costumed characters crowd surfed down the street, students shot off fireworks, papers were thrown from balconies, and even a small fire was started in Beaver Canyon. The Penn State men’s volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning the EIVA Championship over Springfield on Saturday night. The win was the Nittany Lions’ 13th-straight EIVA Championship victory, which increased their overall total to 23. Penn State will host the national tournament, with the semifinals on Thursday and the final on Saturday.
Former Penn State tailback Evan Royster was taken in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round on Saturday. As the 177th pick overall, Royster will have his work cut out for him to make the Redskins' roster. Royster graduated from Penn State as the Nittany Lions' all-time leading rusher with 3,932 yards.
